Squid Game is a South Korean survival drama television series created by Hwang Dong-hyuk for Netflix. Its cast includes Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, HoYeon Jung, O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi, and Kim Joo-ryoung.

The series revolves around a contest where 456 players, all of whom are in deep financial hardship, risk their lives to play a series of deadly children’s games for the chance to win a ₩45.6 billion (US$38 million, €33 million, or GB£29 million as of broadcast) prize.

The title of the series draws from a similarly named Korean children’s game.

Hwang had conceived of the idea based on his own economic struggles early in life, as well as the class disparity in South Korea and capitalism.

Though he had initially written it in 2009, he was unable to find a production company to fund the idea until Netflix took an interest around 2019 as part of their drive to expand their foreign programming offerings.

The fourth season of the American science fiction horror drama television series Stranger Things, was released on the streaming service Netflix in two volumes.

The first set of seven episodes was released on May 27, 2022, while the second set of two episodes was released on July 1, 2022.

The season was produced by the show’s creators the Duffer Brothers, along with Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, Iain Paterson and Curtis Gwinn.

Returning as series regulars are Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Matthew Modine and Paul Reiser, while Brett Gelman was promoted to series regular after recurring in the previous two seasons.

Jamie Campbell Bower, Joseph Quinn, Eduardo Franco and Cara Buono also star. Tom Wlaschiha, Nikola Đuričko, and Mason Dye appear in recurring roles.

The season was met with positive reviews, with critics praising the performances of cast members (particularly those of Harbour, Brown, McLaughlin, Sink, Bower, and Quinn), the visuals, action sequences, and the darker, more mature tone compared to previous seasons, though some criticized it for being overstuffed due to the lengthier episode runtimes compared to previous seasons.

The first volume of the season received 13 nominations for the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, including Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series.
