Eintracht Frankfurt Win Europa League Final After Beating Rangers In Penalty Shootout
Eintracht Frankfurt beat Rangers to win their first European title after 42 years.
Frankfurt was also the winner of this tournament in 1980, known as the UEFA Cup.
Had to win in southern Spain after being left behind and then won in a penalty shootout.
Rangers took the lead after 57 minutes when Joe Aribo, a midfielder, played out of position as a central scorer.
Rafael Santos Borre was leveled for the Bundesliga outfit to force extra time.
This went on without major happening until the 118th minute, when Kevin Trapp made a remarkable save to deny Ryan Kent at point-blank range.
Frankfurt's hero Trapp saved Aaron Ramsey's spot-kick to help his side win 5-4.
Frankfurt had knocked out Real Betis and Barcelona in previous rounds.
Their win in the final allowed them to qualify for next season’s Champions League group stage despite finishing 11th in Germany’s Bundesliga.
