Chris Hemsworth says playing Thor has ‘paralleled my journey.’

“Thor: Love and Thunder,” which is set for release Friday, July 8, is the fourth stand-alone film for the hammer-wielding god.

Hemsworth has played the character for 11 years, matching Robert Downey Jr.’s tenure as Iron Man.

Flight Path

“It’s kind of paralleled my own personal journey,”

“The first time I played the character, I was very uncertain about what I was doing.

I thought I was going to be recast at any second. I didn’t know if I was going to be asked to do another one.

And there was an element to Thor, an uncertainty there (because) it was an origin story.

(Thor) had a slight immaturity and lessons he needed to learn, and as I’ve learned lessons and become more comfortable in myself, I’ve allowed there to be an openness and to not take myself so seriously.

I think the character has done that, too.”

“ ‘Rush’ opened up doors to do other things; it was off the back of ‘Thor,’ and I was only getting sent action films,” Hemsworth said.

Brush Stroke

“What I’ve been so thankful for through my career is the opportunity to play this character (Thor). But then you dance in the different spaces as well.”
