In a sparkling leather suit in black and gloves, the performer appeared to be influenced by The Late King of Pop’s costume to create the look for the song.

Then, at the end of the show, Maxwell finished the song with the words: “We love you Michael Jackson.”

The song’s lyrics read: “Baby through the years/ Gonna love you more each day/ So I promise you tonight/ That you’ll always be the lady in my life.”

“Thriller” was Michael’s sixth album and was his best-selling album ever.

The release date was December 30, 1982, which means it would reach its 40th birthday later in the year.

The album was an instant hit across the globe and included on America’s Billboard 100, and spawned seven singles, including The Girl Is Mine, Billie Jean, “Beat It,” “Wanna Be Starting Something,” and the title track “Thriller.”
It was sold out to 32 million worldwide and is still the top-selling album in the world ever.

“Thriller” also took home the coveted eight Grammy Awards and was inducted into the institution’s Hall of Fame, while it also won 8 American Music Awards.

Michael Jackson died in 2009 at the age of 50 after suffering from an overdose of drugs.
